02/02/2010 - Spanish scientists cooperate to fight against child trafficking in Haiti
Spanish Government offers to Haitian Authorities extended collaboration to fight against child trafficking in the country, through the program DNA-Prokids.
Up to 6000 genetic identifications will be provided by the program DNA-Prokids, created and developed by the University of Granada in collaboration with the University of North Texas and private and public institutions from 15 countries.
Scientist will create two databases to host genetic data from children under 18 separated from their families in the disaster as well as from parents who have reported missing children.

18/11/2009 - Japanese multinational Toshiba has chosen Granada to host the First Spanish-Japanese Meeting on ICTs, which will involve over 200 experts
This major scientific meeting will be held at the Higher Technical School of Computer Science and Telecommunications Engineering from 24-26, November, 2009.

05/11/2009 - Genetists coordinate action to fight against traffic in human beings
One of the keys is to gain agreement on genetic data collection and treatment. Work guidelines established in Granada might help to deter human trafficking.

Commitments undertaken in the First DNA – Prokids meeting (DNA-Program for Kids Identification with DNA Systems) will allow having standard techniques to fight against this crime: Use of shared protocols for DNA sample collection, supply of technical equipment, genetic experts’ training and development of databases.

03/11/2009 - Researchers characterize DNA from an animal species in its whole distribution, which will help to develop appropriate conservation plans
This information is critical to maintain genetic diversity and will help to properly develop conservation plans for water vole (Arvicola sapidus).
Researchers from the Doñana Biological Station (CSIC) and the UGR have jointly addressed a population and phylogeographic genetic study of such species in its whole distribution (France and the Iberian Peninsula).

Those are the conclusions of the World Database of Happiness, carried out by the Erasmus University of Rotterdam (Holland) with the collaboration of researchers of the University of Granada (Spain)

Granada will host on October 26th and 27th an international meeting of experts in genetic identification and criminalistics. They will establish protocols to coordinate fight against traffic in human beings.
